How the ranking is calculated

Selecting the Best Employers is an absolutely objective process. The organizations are assessed above all by their internal clients — the employees. Our ranking is primarily based on their opinion, as we assume that those are the people who know best and can assess their company as an employer. Neither Hewitt nor the Survey Partners have right or possibility to influence the Survey results. The rank is based on two indicators: Employee Engagement Score and Alignment Score that together constitute the Best Employers Score. To be among the Best Employers, the organization needs to reach the Engagement Score level of at least 65%. In turn, the Best Employers Score determines the actual position of the company in the official ranking. If more than one organization achieves the same result, which is also the case of this edition, places ex aequo are being awarded.

The Best Employers Score is composed of:

  • Engagement Score with a weighting of 60%
  • Alignment Score with a weighting of 40%

Key findings

  • Reports about dismissals and increase of unemployment rate caused that more employees declare that they rarely think about leaving the company (49% in comparison with 43% last year). More and more employees worry about the possible lay offs. They are also less optimistic about finding a new job.
  • Top management engagement increased from 78% to 86% comparing with 2008. Almost 100% top managers are engaged (99% in comparison with 92% last year). These results prove that financial crisis had a motivational effect on leaders.
  • The conviction of top management that success of organization reflects their leadership abilities has increased by 12%. It is one of the most significant increases that we have noticed this year
  • Merely 39% of employees assessed positively efficiency of procedures and processes in their companies. Among the Best Employers' employees this issue is rated far better. 63% of them claimed that procedures and politics support managing and achieving company's goals.
  • More than a half of respondents evaluate that their organization has potential to improve the work effectiveness (55%). What is interesting, 65% of employees of Best Employers claim that their company is capable of increasing the work efficiency.
