FAQs
The list of the 50 Best Employers in Canada always generates interest. Here are some of the more commonly asked questions and their answers.
Why is being a "Best Employer" relevant?
Talent scarcity means that being a Best Employer is no longer a "nice to be," it's a strategic imperative. If you aren't able to attract and retain the talent you need to be successful, the alternative can only be failure.
Who participates in this study?
Participants span all major industries, regions and sizes. Participants have included public and private sector companies, and both "profit" and "not for profit." For more information about participating in the Best Employers in Canada study, please go to the Study Guidelines section of this site.
Why should my organization participate?
There are a number of excellent reasons to participate, including:
- the ability to benchmark against the 50 Best Employers,
- the opportunity to get a current snapshot of your employees' engagement level,
- a complete report of your results, and
- national exposure and the opportunity to showcase your organization as an "employer of choice."
What happens if we don't make the list?
Participating organizations not selected for the 50 Best Employers in Canada list will not be identified, and the names will not be published or released in any manner.
Is there a cost to participate?
No, there is no cost to participate. Each participating organization receives all materials they require to conduct online surveys. There is no fee for surveying any number of employees online. There is a fee if you wish to survey employees using paper surveys, to cover the costs of paper survey administration.
There is an opportunity to do further, in-depth, custom analysis, which can be done by Hewitt Associates for a fee based on your requirements. (For more information, please contact bestemployerscanada@hewitt.com.) However, all participants receive a standard report, including their own employee results, at no cost.
How much time does it take?
Based on our past experience, here are the approximate times to complete each survey:
- Employee Opinion Survey: 20 to 25 minutes per person
- Leadership Team Survey: 20 to 30 minutes per person
- HR Survey: Approximately two hours (may vary depending on the number of people helping to complete it)
